RFI, the Italian Infrastructure Manager, informed its partners about short-term changes in the forthcoming Brenner Closure.

As our partners know, the planned conditions of works and related agreed traffic measures were as follows:

  • 06th August from 00h30 to 11th August, 04h30: total closure Rosenheim – Kufstein
  • 10th August from 23h00 to 15th August, 07h00: total closure Brenner – Bolzano

Each with rail replacement traffic in sections and re-routing of rail freight traffic along the Tarvisio (Tauern) axis.

On account of public safety reasons, due to Summer time touristic passenger traffic, the Prefecture of Bolzano issued  an official order, forcing RFI to postpone the second construction slot by two days.

The works will then carried out from 12th August at 23h00 to 17th August at 07h00. This should enable long-distance and local passenger traffic on weekends. For long-distance passenger traffic, this means that trains will be able to run between Brenner and the Bolzano area on 11th and 12th August without rail replacement traffic to and from Verona, but this will not be possible on 15th and 16th August 18.

The infrastructure managers are currently coordinating the timetable for the extension of re-routing measures together with the railway undertakings and will provide more details on. The exact procedure in the shortest possible timeframe.

ScanMed and its members IMs regret these circumstances, which we cannot influence, and thank you in advance for your cooperation.
