Copenhagen, 27 August 2025 – – The Femern Belt Platform (FBP) held its first official Steering Committee (SteeCo) Meeting today in Copenhagen, bringing together representatives from the European Commission, infrastructure managers, national transport ministries, and railway undertakings, among others.
The meeting marked a significant milestone in the establishment of the FBP, a cross-sectoral initiative on the European Transport Corridor (ETC) ScanMed. The FBP will work to remove operational, legal, communication, and capacity-related barriers particularly for long-distance rail connections. This will ensure the successful opening of the Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link (FBFL) and unleash the full potential for rail customers, be them citizens or enterprises, to the benefit of the economy and the climate.
Key outcomes of the Steering Committee meeting included:
- Official adoption of the FBP Rules of Proceeding (RoP), providing the framework for the platform’s governance and cooperation.
- Strategic alignment on the objectives, format, and stakeholder engagement for the first FBP Plenary Session, taking place tomorrow, 28 August 2025, in Copenhagen.
- Participants underscored the importance of early cross-border coordination and collaboration among infrastructure managers, operators, political institutions, and industry stakeholders along the corridor to fully prepare for the operational start of the FBFL.
“Today’s Steering Committee meeting confirmed the shared commitment to making the Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link a success story for sustainable, competitive, and seamless transport across Europe,” said Pat Cox, EU Coordinator for the ScanMed ETC. Gustaf Engstrand (Green Cargo) confirmed this: “The Plenary Session will now take this momentum forward, bringing the entire stakeholder community together for the benefit of long-distance transport.”
The FBP Steering Committee will meet regularly to guide the platform’s work and ensure that identified challenges are addressed in a coordinated and market-oriented way – well ahead of the FBFL’s opening.
